BENGALURU: Around 12,500 students have requested for a change in centre for the upcoming SSLC exams as they are currently stationed at places away from their designated centres. The deadline to apply ended Sunday night.

As on 4pm on Sunday, the number of students who wanted the change stood at 12,496. The education department had announced that students could opt for another test centre as many of them, including hostel inmates, had left for their hometowns/villages and were stranded there because of the lockdown. The decision was taken considering that travelling back would be difficult given the restrictions and since many hostels have been turned into quarantine centres.

The Karnataka State Secondary Education Examination Board had extended the last date to apply for the change twice.

For the Common Entrance Test (CET), 28,558 students have sought a change in centre. The deadline set by Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) was 6pm Sunday. KEA will increase the number of rooms in test centres to allow social distancing.

For the pending II PU English exam, around 16,221 students have asked for a change in centre. The highest number of requests have come from Dakshina Kannada (6,328), followed by Dharwad (3,165) and Udupi (1,240). There have been 751 requests from Bengaluru. “The last date was last week. We will host the centre changes on our website within 2-3 days. We have almost completed the work,” said PU department director M Kanagavalli.

Other boards like CBSE and CISCE have given similar options to students. SSLC exams will be conducted from June 25 to July 4, PU on June 18 and CET on July 30 and 31.

Students can now get in touch with KEA through a WhatsApp number: 97413 88123. The facility has been launched for better communication between students and KEA, said a press note. Students can also reach KEA by sending an email to keauthority-ka@nic.in. For updated information, visit its official website – http://kea.kar.nic.in.
