A powerful motorbikes should make mince meat of most high-performance cars off the line because of its superior acceleration, right? Well, let's see how BMW's most powerful car and bike go head-to-head in this clip from CarExpert.
Here are the nuts and bolts: The 2020 BMW M8 Competition is the fastest BMW road car and the 2020 BMW S1000RR with the M Carbon Package is the fastest road bike.
The claimed figures are staggering, let's start with the M8 Competition which is powered by a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine that produces 460kW and 750Nm. An eight-speed M Steptronic transmission distributes the power to all four wheels, with a switchable rear-wheel drive only setting.
BMW claims a 3.2 second 0-100km/h sprint time and say it weighs in at 1885kg.
And what about the lighter, two-wheeled machine? Well, the superbike is powered 1000cc inline four-cylinder engine with 152kW and 113Nm. Top speed is 305km/h which is not necessary in this type of evaluation but good to know anyway.
Weighing in at 171kg it's incredibly light. Another trick up its sleeve is the M Package which adds track-focused electronic aids, such as DTC +/- Shift, ABS Settings, engine mappings, wheelie and slide control according to riders.com.
The video from CarExpert drills down into performance specifications, sound check, M8 Competition acceleration tests, drag race, and a brake test.
