Manyama: The team first before the individual talk

2020-06-01 17:21

Lebogang Manyama says Kaizer Chiefs' improved form this season is down to important performances from all the club's players and not just him.

The 29-year-old former Ajax Cape Town, SuperSport United, Cape Town City and Konyaspor winger has been credited for being a driving force at Amakhosi during the 2019/20 Premier Soccer League campaign.

Chiefs entered the enforced break, as a result of the coronavirus, on top of the Absa Premiership standings, four points clear of Mamelodi Sundowns, and having played a game more.

The club ended the 2018/19 season in a lowly ninth place but have been firing on all cylinders under the guidance of returning head coach Ernst Middendorp - who joined the team halfway through last season, replacing Giovanni Solinas.

Speaking to the SowetanLIVE, Manyama said: "I think if people say I have been a revelation (this season)‚ I wouldn't agree with that because I don't think individually.

"Obviously I do hear about certain things but when it comes to a team, I think I'm more for the team. I think most importantly I'm very happy for where the team is and I'm very happy to have contributed.

"It's what's I wanted to do from the start, and I think most of the guys in the team know that I fight for the team first before the individual talk. I think that's what has pushed us to where we are right now."

Assuming the 2019/20 Absa Premiership season can't be concluded prior to the 31 July deadline decreed by FIFA, what would be the fairest way to settle matters - all bias aside?
