Surat: Girl hanging from apartment terrace rescued

SURAT: A 17-year-old girl was rescued by residents when she was hanging on the parapet of a four-storey apartment's terrace in Parnera village of Valsad on Sunday.
The girl told police that she lost balance and was about to fall but was rescued by locals on time.
However, according to details shared on social media with a video of the incident, the minor was attempting suicide and was rescued at the last moment by some alert residents.
A crowd gathered around Sai Hari Apartment on Sunday afternoon when the 17-year-old girl, resident of the apartment, was hanging from the terrace parapet. Some of the onlookers started taking video on their mobile phone, which later went viral on social media.
"Preliminary inquiry in the incident revealed that the girl lost balance and was about to fall when she caught hold of the parapet. She shouted for help when two men living in the apartment came to her rescue and pulled her back on terrace," said a police officer with Valsad rural police station. Police found these details based on the girl's statement.
However, the girl could not explain to police what she was doing on terrace in scorching summer afternoon. She told police that she often went to spend time on terrace. Daughter of an employee in a co-operative society, the girl studies in class XII at a local school.
