45 new Covid-19 cases reported in Surat city; two more succumb to virus

SURAT: Surat recorded 45 new Covid-19 cases on Saturday, the third day where it recorded above 40 cases daily.
According to SMC officials, two persons succumbed to the virus in the city taking the death toll due coronavirus to 68. A 34-year-old Kalpesh Markna, a resident of Hirabaug in Varachha (A) zone succumbed to the virus. He was also a heart patient. Another patient 63-year-old Govind Salat from Katargam zone died due to the virus. He was suffering from heart disease. Total 68 people have succumbed to Covid-19 in the city till date.
"I request people to maintain social distance, wear masks and those people have come from outside to Surat city in the last few days to isolate themselves for 14 days to contain the spread of virus as cases are increasing in the city. Lockdown relaxation has been given to increase economic activities but doesn't mean that lockdown has been lifted. I urge people to take it very seriously,'' Banchhanidhi Pani, municipal commissioner, Surat, said.
On Saturday, Katargam zone reported 15 cases, Limbayat zone (12) and Udhna zone recorded 10 Covid-19 cases in the city.
"Now, cases have started coming from the green zone where no case has been reported till now in the city. One Covid-19 case was reported in Bhimpore area in the city. This should worry us all,'' Pani said.
"We have found one person in the City Light area flouting home quarantined rules and opened his shops. We have fined him with Rs 20000 and we urge people to report such incidents to SMC or police and we will take strict actions against them,'' civic body chief said.
'Many people are demanding that their areas be removed from clusters. People should understand the spread of the virus and how it can be dangerous if it spreads further. Total 97 people are in critical care which include seven patients on ventilators in the city,'' Pani warned people.
Meanwhile, 29 Covid-19 patients were discharged in Surat on Saturday taking the total tally of discharged people to 1042 till date.
