A 'volcanic' beauty stick that's been proven to leave makeup flawless by absorbing oil in a single stroke is flying off shelves just days after launching in Australia.

The hype around Revlon's $8.99 'Oil-Absorbing Volcanic Facial Roller' began when American makeup artist 'Looks by Lexington' tested it in a TikTok video, which opened with her bemoaning her 'really oily' skin to her 2.7million followers.

Holding the camera close, the San Diego social media star gently rubbed the roller ball across her forehead and seemed astounded when the oily sheen glistening above her right eyebrow immediately vanished.

'It literally gets rid of all the shine, and it doesn't mess with your makeup at all,' she says in the clip. 'What the heck, this is crazy, I'm obsessed. Wow!'

Revlon's $8.99 'Oil-Absorbing Volcanic Facial Roller'

The video, which has been viewed by 6.8million people since it was shared on March 28, prompted a nationwide sell-out across the US.

But Australians can still get their hands on the roller because it's now available Down Under, in-store at Big W and Chemist Warehouse and online on Amazon.

The roller is described as a 'quick solution to reduce the appearance of oily sheen on the skin,' which helps the face stay smooth and matte throughout the day.

It can be washed like a makeup brush which means you can reuse it time and again, guaranteeing great value for money at a cost of $8.99.

Five home remedies for oily skin

1. Wash your face more

It may seem obvious but many people with oily skin don't wash their face everyday for fear of making it worse. In reality, oily skin should be washed twice a day with gentle, glycerin-based soaps.

2. Use blotting paper

It won't prevent your skin from getting oily, but it allows you to blot excess sheen from your face and reduce the appearance of a greasy complexion. Blotting papers are cheap and readily available in chemists and the makeup aisle of supermarkets.

3. Dab some honey

Honey is one of nature's best skin remedies thanks to its antibacterial and antiseptic properties, which make it ideal for oily skin in particular. Spread a thing law of good quality raw honey onto your face, let it dry for 10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with warm water.

4. Apply oatmeal

Oatmeal soothes inflamed skin and absorbs excess oil, as well as gently exfoliating dead skin cells. It can be combined with yoghurt, honey or mashed fruit like banana or papaya. Massage the mixture into your face for three minutes, before rinsing with warm water and patting dry.

5. Mask with egg white and lemon

Egg whites and lemons contain ingredients which are thought to tighten pores and absorb oil. To make an egg and lemon face mask, combine an egg white with a teaspoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice. Apply to your face, leaving it until it hardens. Rinse with warm water and pat dry.

Amazon reviewers have hailed it a 'must-have' tool that's far superior to traditional remedies like blotting paper, which is typically used to absorb grease and mattify oily complexions.

'I first saw this online and it looks like it worked very well in the video that I watched. I use oil blotting sheets a lot but I thought if this rollerball works it would be way more convenient as it is reusable and washable,' one woman said.

'This does not move your makeup at all and it literally makes your face look completely matte, soaking up all of the oil! Super easy to clean.'

Others agreed, praising the delicacy of the ball which doesn't smudge or lift off foundation.

TikTok star 'Looks by Lexington', who prompted a nationwide sell-out of the roller in the US

Revlon marketing manager Carmen Coulter said the incredible response to the product in the US prompted the brand to launch it in Australia and other countries.

She credited Lexington's TikTok video for a large part of its commercial success.

'There's no dubt that social media has played a part in the success…in the US and as a result locally, we have had customers in significant numbers requesting the roller since seeing the video on TikTok,' Ms Coulter told news.com.au.
