Murder convict Gurdarshan Singh Darshan of Mubarakpur Chujhan (Sandaur), who was sentenced to life term, and Sandeep Singh of Banga (Moonak), who was undergoing jail term for an attempt to murder (Section 307 of the IPC), managed to escape from the jail at around 3.30pm.
Inmates ran away while working at farming site
The duo along with other inmates was working at the open site used for farming activities inside the Sangrur jail.
The convicts had been released from their barracks in the morning and taken to the open site for farming work. It is yet to be established as to how the two convicts managed to escape from within the jail premises, according to the police. The investigation into their escape has already been launched.
The jail authorities immediately started a search operation after the daring escape by the two convicts was noticed but could not find them. The jail authorities then decided to inform the district police and a formal complaint was filed at around 5.30pm.
Sangrur SSP Sandeep Garg along with senior officials of the district reached the spot after being informed about their escape. Special police teams have been constituted which immediately started conducting raids, DSP Satpal Sharma said.
