Picture used for representational purpose onlyMUMBAI: A 52-year-old constable with Malwani police station succumbed to Covid-19 on Thursday, the 14th from Mumbai Police. His wife also tested positive and was hospitalised, police said.
As many as 2,095 state policemen have tested positive, out of which around 1,200 are from the city. A total of 131 new cases were recorded on Wednesday. Three more policemen have tested positive for Covid-19 in Vasai-Virar, taking the total to 672 there. A 31-year-old cop tested positive on Tuesday, followed by two others aged 43 and 31 who tested positive in Virar.
The Malwani constable on May 20 complained of fever and bodyache. Superiors told him to go to hospital for a check-up. He proceeded on leave and got himself admitted to Shivam hospital, Charkop. He showed no symptoms of Covid but was keen on a test. He took discharge on Wednesday from Shivam and went to JJ hospital for a Covid test.
On Thursday, when he tested positive, he called for an ambulance to take him to Kole Kalyan facility for policemen with Covid. "As his brother-in-law knew a private hospital's management in Malad, he and his wife went there but he succumbed," said a senior officer. He earlier worked at the assistant commissioner's office and in Malwani. A police official said personnel are being briefed on precautions.
