Past few years, Sambit Patra has become one of the BJP's most pro-active spokespersons on TV news debates.

In last year's Lok Sabha elections, the 45-year-old had fought from the Puri constituency in Odisha but was defeated by the Pinaki Misra from Biju Janata Dal (BJD).

The former Medical Officer is also very much active on social media platforms. On Twitter, he has 4.4 lakh followers.

If confirmed to have coronavirus, he would be the second major spokesperson of a national party to get infected by the infection. Last week, Congress spokesperson on Twitter declared that he had tested positive for the coronavirus and was self-quarantining.

Recently, former Maharashtra Chief Minister and a Cabinet Minister of the Congress in the Uddhav Thackeray led government, also positive for coronavirus.
