LUCKNOW: In a bid to provide jobs to lakhs of migrant workers who have returned to the state, UP government is set to sign MoUs with the Indian Industries Association (IIA) and National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO) for employment of 7.5 lakh people annually.
An official said that as per the MoUs, the two organisations, one linked to MSMEs and the other (NAREDCO) the apex body of real estate developers, would be reaching out to industries and builders to collect information about labour demand from various industries, their experience, skill sets among other information pertinent for giving employment.
The details will then be shared with the government which will connect people listed in its data bank with industries that seek human capital.
Govt surveying MSMEs to beef up manpower usage
Each year, IIA will seek to provide employment for 5 lakh people while NARECO is likely to ensure that 2.5 lakh people are absorbed in the real estate industry each year. These will include skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled labour. There are 90 lakh MSME units in UP and chief minister Yogi Adityanath has said that if we try and get from one to 10 people absorbed in each unit, we can easily provide jobs to the lakhs of people who have returned during the lockdown,” said an official.
Manmohan Agarwal, IIA national secretary said that the organisation was in favour of migrant workers getting employment within the state itself. “This will be a win-win situation for the government and industry. Majority of workers are skilled and semi-skilled. With the new policies that the government is announcing, we are expecting significant development of industry and then we will need this work force.”
Meanwhile, the government, too, is surveying MSMEs and big industrial organisations to assess how their manpower usage can be strengthened. It has also proposed an internship or apprenticeship programme for unskilled persons who can be linked with an industry of their choice and get training while they work. The apprenticeship will be for a year during which the trainee will also be paid collectively by the state government and the industry.
Expecting about 30 lakh migrant workers to have returned to the state by the end of this week and over 30 lakh registered unemployed persons with the labour department till February this year, the government has set itself a task of providing work under MNREGS to at least 50 lakh persons by the end of May.
