Coronavirus update: With 6,566 cases and 194 deaths, India's total number of coronavirus cases have jumped to 158,613— just a shade behind Turkey. India's Covid-19 death toll has risen to 4,540. Among states, Maharashtra has the highest number of Covid-19 cases, at 56,948.
Some media reports suggest that India's lockdown might be extended beyond May 31. However, the government has not yet confirmed the development. At least 49 million people across the world are expected to plunge into “extreme poverty” as a direct result of the pandemic’s economic destruction and India leads that projection, according to the World Bank. Aorund 12 million Indians will be pushed to extreme poverty this year.
Coronavirus world update: The global tally of coronavirus cases currently stands at 5,807,012 and 357,800 people have died from the disease.
