Fbd’s highest 1-day spike in Covid number is now 28

Gurgaon: Faridabad reported 28 new cases of Covid-19 in the district’s highest single-day spike on Wednesday. With this, the tally of cases has gone up to 262. A 33-year-old prisoner lodged in Neemka jail is among the 28 people tested positive for Covid on Wednesday in the district. A non-resident Indian (NRI), who had returned from Muscat, also tested positive.
A 56-year-old resident of Sainik Colony in Sector 49 works in Afghanistan and had returned on May 19. He is suffering from diabetes, hypertension and also has Covid symptoms.
Four more members of a family, which already had two Covid patients, also tested positive on Wednesday. They include a 52-year-old woman, her 31-year-old daughter-in-law and two granddaughters, including a one-year-old and a six-year-old girl. A Covid patient (21), who is a is a fashion designer, was undergoing an internship programme in Mumbai and had come from Mumbai on May 5. She was tested positive on Wednesday. A six-year-old girl from Greenfields Colony which is already a containment zone, a nine-year-old girl and a 10-year-old girl also tested positive.
“We are witnessing an increase in the number of cases since surveillance has increased. Now we are screening more people. Moreover, relaxation in restrictions is also one of the reasons,” said a health official. Other patients include a 34-year-old man residing in Sector 48 and working with a private firm in Gurgaon. He had visited a private hospital in Gurgaon. He had fever for four days. A 53-year-old man suffering from paralysis also tested positive.
The health department has crossed 10,000-mark for sending samples for Covid testing. It has sent 10,066 samples to laboratories so far for testing, out of which 9,287 samples have turned out to be negative, while reports of 517 samples are still awaited. As many as 123 patients have already been discharged from hospitals after recovery and 111 patients have been hospitalised.
