Ghaziabad: In the past three days at least 25 fire incidents have been reported in the city with five cases getting reported in the past 24 hours alone.
In one of the recent incidents, fire officials rescued six people after they were trapped in a blaze that broke out in Shastri Nagar area on late on Tuesday night.
“A footwear showroom in SI Block in Shastri Nagar was engulfed in fire that broke out after a short circuit. On the third floor of the building, six people, who stay in two flats, were unable to get out as the common staircase was full of smoke. We deployed four fire tenders and the fire officials had to break open the flat windows to pull out the people who were trapped,” said Sunil Singh, the chief fire officer.
In another case, at Indirapuram, a fire broke out in a flat on 10th floor of Aditya Mega City. “It started from a flat’s kitchen. We rushed three fire tenders there and they took about an hour to douse the flames,” Singh said.
In another incident of fire, a furniture factory was damaged in a blaze and according to reports, items worth lakhs were gutted. “In Ramprastha area, a fire broke out on Tuesday evening. But fortunately, no one was injured” said Singh.
According to officials at the fire department, extreme heat and overheated electrical appliances are leading to fire related incidents in the city.
