Strategic affairs experts have criticized US President Donald Trump's offer to mediate on the Indo-China border dispute in Ladakh. Experts said that India and China have strong mechanisms to resolve border disputes and there is no scope for any third-party intervention.

Former Indian Ambassador to the US Meera Shankar said, Trump's proposal is unfair. Perhaps he would like to propose an image of himself as a great negotiator. He has often tried to get involved in such issues. At the same time, former Indian Ambassador to Russia PS Raghavan also stressed on Meera Shankar's talk that third party mediation cannot really solve complex bilateral issues.

We have not asked third parties to intervene to resolve any of our bilateral issues. We have firmly resolved issues with our two neighboring countries (Pakistan and China). We have mechanisms and dialogue. We are dealing with bilateral issues under these mechanisms
