After Bengaluru, it’s Tirupur’s turn to hear ‘mysterious boom’

COIMBATORE: On May 20, Bengaluru heard a “mysterious boom,” which was later confirmed as the sonic boom of an IAF aircraft. After a week, on Thursday, it was the turn of Tirupur district in Tamil Nadu to hear the “mysterious boom.”
Residents of Tirupur city, Kangeyam, Palladam, Arulpuram, Avinashipalayam, Pongalur, Koduvai, Anupparpalayam and a few more areas heard the boom around 10.30am. The boom caused panic among residents and many of them rushed out of their homes.
Officials in the district administration said it might be the sonic boom of a Tejas supersonic aircraft that was being tested at the Sulur Air Force Station.
Tirupur district collector K Vijayakarthikeyan and superintendent of police Disha Mittal, who was at her office, also confirmed that a boom was heard.
The district administration has approached Sulur Air Force Station for further information. The Indian Air Force has No 45 Squadron or Flying Daggars to operate the indigenous Tejas fight aircraft. The squadron team members were being trained often.
IAF's No 18 squadron or Flying Bullets was operationlised at the Sulur Air Force Station on Wednesday, and Tejas Mk1 was inducted.
