65-year-old dies waiting for an ambulance in Delhi

NEW DELHI: A 65-year-old former attendant at AIIMS hospital who waited for nearly two-and-a half-hours for an ambulance to arrive died on the road on Wednesday.
Though passersby noticed him, no one came forward to help fearing corona infection.
The area beat officer, meanwhile, intervened and called at least three private ambulances to drive the man to a hospital, but they allegedly refused claiming lack of PPE kits. After trying for nearly an hour, constable Vipin procured a PPE kit from Hauz Khas Police station and convinced a CATS ambulance to take him to a hospital.
The ambulance first drove to Safdarjung Hospital, but failed to get an admission. They then drove to Lal Bahadur Hospital where the 65-year-old was declared dead at 2pm.
Police identified him as Jaspal, a resident of Kotla Mubarakpur, around 7pm after his family approached them with a missing complaint. An inquiry has been initiated into the negligence by the ambulances.While there were no external injuries, cops suspect that he might have fainted due to extreme heat.
