An 18-day-old baby girl defeated coronavirus and was discharged from the Hiranandani Hospital in Mumbai’s Powai on Thursday. She is probably the youngest patient to defeat the deadly coronavirus in India. Interestingly, her mother tested coronavirus negative.

According to the doctors, the baby was delivered at a private nursing home on May 10. Within 3 hours of her birth she started showing symptoms of high degree fever. From there she was shifted to another hospital where she was tested for coronavirus.

On May 12, the baby girl was transferred to Hiranandani Hospital as it is treating coronavirus patients. At the time of admission the baby had high fever and breathlessness.

"We had to put her on non-invasive ventilation. After treatment, she tested negative on May 28 and was discharged," said Dr Bijal Shrivastava, pediatrician at the hospital.

"We have done 14 deliveries of coronavirus positive mothers. All the babies have tested negative. In their cases we encouraged breastfeeding and other activities like in case of all normal deliveries," said Dr Sanjeev Ahuja, pediatrician.
