While on a brief intermission due to effects of Covid-19, the Zeiterion Performing Arts Center will gather virtually for two special video presentations of “The Boy Who Grew Flowers,” based on the children’s book celebrating individualism.

The virtual event will be held twice, once for schools and once for families, and each will feature pre-show activities where the audience can interact with Zeiterion staff before the previously-recorded live stage production plays on screen.

Geared for kids ages 5 to 10, “The Boy Who Grew Flowers” follows the story of a young boy, Rink Bowagon, who lives on top of Lonesome Mountain with his unusual family of rattlesnake tamers and shape-shifters.

The townspeople agree that Rink’s family are quite strange, but they are unaware of Rink’s spectacular gifts. Whenever the moon is full, Rink sprouts beautiful flowers from his head. When a new girl, Angelina, moves to town, Rink’s life truly begins to grow.

Incorporating puppetry, original music, and movement, “The Boy Who Grew Flowers” is a thoughtful and magical story that lends itself to themes of diversity, creating empathy and celebrating individualism.

Performances are Tuesday, June 2, at 10 a.m. for schools and Thursday, June 4, at 6 p.m. for families.

Tickets for this virtual event, using Zoom, are available for schools at https://zeiterion.org/boy-who-grew-flowers-schools/ and for families at https://zeiterion.org/boy-who-grew-flowers.
