First cyclone in Arabian Sea won't affect Mumbai, second might

MUMBAI: The city is unlikely to be affected by a cyclonic circulation over southwest Arabian Sea as it is projected to concentrate into a depression in the same region, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday.
However, a second formation is expected around May 30 towards southeast Arabian Sea. It is likely to turn into a low pressure area and could bring rain along the coast. No warnings have been issued by IMD yet .
The low pressure will move along the coast toward Gujarat. "Rains and winds will increase along coastal Karnataka, Maharashtra and south Gujarat," said Mahesh Palawat, VP, Meteorology And Climate Change, Skymet Weather Services.
The usual monsoon onset date for the city is June 11. Pre-monsoon showers can be expected from the first week of June in the state. Last year, the monsoon was delayed and declared in the city only on June 25.
On Wednesday, the maximum temperature recorded at Santa Cruz was 34.1 degrees Celsius and the minimum was 28.6 degrees, keeping the discomfort index high for residents. The relative humidity recorded by IMD Colaba and Santa Cruz observatories were 83% and 72%, respectively.
