NEW DELHI: Delhi Metro has decided to temporarily suspend mandatory breath-analyser tests for train operators. The train operators had demanded the test be suspended, citing fear of spread of Covid-19 infection.
"As a precautionary measure, breath-analyser tests have been temporarily suspended," said Anuj Dayal, executive director (corporate communications), DMRC. "However, all train operators will be required to submit a self-declaration about the same before sign-on for duty till this practice is in place," he said.
As the train operator is responsible for the safety of the passengers in the train, it is mandatory as per the Metro Rail General Rules for the operator undergo a breath-analyser test while signing on or off for the duty on daily basis. Although DMRC has been reiterating that every operator is issued individual blow pipes to avoid any chance of infection, operators insisted that no chance should be taken.
