New Delhi: After Twitter, now Google has allowed its employees to continue working from home till the end of this year. The company is also providing its employees an allowance of $1,000 USD to buy necessary equipment and office furniture to make work from home comfortable.

In an email sent Tuesday, CEO Sundar Pichai said returning to the office will be voluntary through the end of the year. He also declared that the company will be opening more buildings in more cities beginning 6 July, which will allow employees the opportunity to return on a limited, rotating basis.

“In the September timeframe, we will further scale the rotation program, building over time to 30 percent capacity”, Pichai wrote in the email. This will be for employees who voluntarily come back to the office.

“We’ll have rigorous health and safety measures in place to ensure social distancing and sanitization guidelines are followed, so the office will look and feel different than when you left,” Pichai wrote. “Our goal is to be fair in the way we allocate time in the office, while limiting the number of people who come in, consistent with safety protocols.”

Earlier, Facebook had announced that anyone who can do their work remotely can do so through the end of the year. The company is also preparing for permanent remote workers, who will have salaries depending on their local living conditions. Twitter had also allowed its employees the facility to work from home forever and upped the allowance for work from home supplies to $1,000 for all employees.
