The Bombay High Court, in the midst of the Corona crisis, directed a think tank seeking possession of the trust's two hospitals to deposit Rs one crore as collateral for its good intentions. The court said on Tuesday, that before starting the hearing, in this case, the petitioner must first deposit this amount as a guarantee to prove his integrity.

The bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Dutta and Justice KK Tateed was hearing the PIL of Abhinav Bharat Congress. Abhinav Bharat Congress is an unregistered thinktank and its founder is Pankaj Phadnis. The petition sought to take possession of Bai Gerbai Wadia Hospital and Naoroji Wadia Maternity Hospital from the Government of Maharashtra and BMC with the intention of treating Corona patients.

However, the BMC opposed this saying that Pankaj Phadnis is a former employee of the Wadia family and has filed this petition for his personal interest. On this, the court said, prima facie this petition does not seem to be in the public interest. In this, the intention of the petitioner is under doubt.

In such a situation, if the petitioner feels that it should be heard, he will have to deposit one crore rupees within a week as a guarantee to express his clear intention. Corona patients could be treated in hospitals. The court also clarified that if Phadnis could not deposit this amount, the petition itself would be dismissed.
