Bombay high courtMUMBAI: The Bombay high court on Tuesday allowed a 13-year-old who was allegedly sexually assaulted by her father to medically terminate her 23-week pregnancy.
The direction was passed by a bench of Justice Nitin Jamdar and Justice Nitin Borkar, who heard the girl’s petition via video-conference. The girl filed the petition through her mother, a pavement dweller in south Mumbai.
The law says that if the foetus is over 20 weeks old, high court permission is required for medical termination.
The petition, presented by advocates Sangram Chinnappa and Aditi Saxena, said the girl was repeatedly raped by her father when she stayed at her aunt’s home in Thane.
