A jump of over 6,000 cases took India's case count to 1,51,767, while 4,337 have died due to the virus.

Hotels may reopen from June 1 in Karnataka, some tax relief for owners likely
- Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Tuesday asked a delegation of hoteliers to get ready to reopen hotels and restaurants from June 1.
- Yediyurappa, who received a memorandum from the Bangalore Hoteliers’ Association, said the Union home ministry’s guidelines do not permit the sector to reopen till May 31, when Lockdown 4.0 is likely to be lifted.
France GDP could fall 'around 20%' in second quarter
- France's economy could contract by around 20 percent in the second quarter as lockdown measures meant to slow the spread of the coronavirus slashed activity, the national statistics agency INSEE said Wednesday.
- It also said activity was resuming "prudently" after lockdown measures were eased in France earlier this month and that while consumer spending was rebounding consumer confidence slid a bit further.

- Global energy investment is expected to plunge by around 20% or $400 billion in 2020, its biggest fall on record, because of the new coronavirus outbreak, the International Energy Agency (IEA) said on Wednesday.
