Man dies of COVID-19 in J&K; death toll reaches 27, reports PTI

A 55-year-old man from Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir died of coronavirus, taking the death toll to 27 in the Union territory, officials said on Thursday. The man from Khanpora area in north Kashmir was referred from the Government Medical College Hospital Baramulla with fever and respiratory distress to the SMHS Hospital here on Wednesday, they said. The patient died within hours of admission, the officials said.

Maharashtra: Cases against 250 tribals for holding protest amid lockdown

Police have registered cases against around 250 tribals for allegedly holding sit-in protests at different places in Maharashtra's Palghar district despite the lockdown to press for their various demands like getting ration cards, an official said on Thursday. The tribals have been holding sit-in protests outside the tehsil offices in Mokhada, Vasai, Dahanu in the district since the last couple of days, Palghar police spokesperson Sachin Navadkar said. These protesters, who also included women, also demanded works under the EGS (employment guarantee scheme), he said.

7 persons test positive for Covid-19 in Manipur, total rises to 51

Of the fresh cases, five were from Thoubal district and one each from Kakching and Imphal West, he said. All the new patients have returned to the state recently and were in quarantine centres, the official said, adding that their samples were tested at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal. Churachandpur district with 18 patients has the highest number of cases in Manipur.

15 sent home before Covid test report in HP, probe ordered

Fifteen COVID-19 patients in Himachal Pradesh's Hamirpur were sent home from quarantine centres while reports of their second tests were still awaited, prompting the district administration to order a probe, an official said on Thursday. They were brought back and sent to COVID care centres after their test reports came back positive, he said. These 15 people had returned from Maharashtra's Mumbai and Thane on a special train and were under institutional quarantine in Hamirpur.

Indore Covid-19 tally up by 78 to 3,260; death toll 122

At least 78 people tested positive for coronavirus in Indore in last 24 hours, taking the COVID-19 tally in Madhya Pradesh's worst-hit district to 3,260, a senior health official said on Thursday. Apart from this, three persons, including two women, succumbed to the viral infection in different hospitals here in last two days. With this, the death toll in the district has gone up to 122.

Lockdown: TN police registers five lakh plus FIRs, imposes over Rs 8 crore fine

For the 5,08,263 cumulative instances of violation of lockdown, an equalnumber of FIRs were registered, the state police said. A fine amount of Rs 8.36 crore has so far been imposed on the alleged violators of lockdown regulations and as many as 4,27,689 vehicles were seized,a police release said. Chennai police, meanwhile, said in a single day they registered 427 cases and seized 35 two-wheelers, 21 autorickshaws and five light motor vehicles including cars for alleged violations.
