Uthra murder case: Snake dug out for postmortem

KOLLAM: The Anchal police on Tuesday dug out the snake, which allegedly bit Uthra, who was found dead in the bedroom of her house in Eram on May 7, for postmortem.
The Cobra's fangs, muscles and brain were harvested from its body and sent for expert analysis in Thiruvananthapuram and New Delhi. The fangs of the 152cm-long Cobra measured 0.6cm. Asst veterinary surgeon Kishore Kumar, Thiruvananthapuram zoology park veterinary asst director Dr Jaciob Alexander, Thiruvananthapuram mounted police unit surgeon asst director Dr N J Lawrence, scientific assistant Shafeeka performed the nearly three-hour-long autopsy.
Meanwhile, the forest department registered a case against snake charmer Suresh Kumar and Uthara's husband Sooraj for illegally possessing, selling and killing the reptile under Section 9 and 15 of Wild Life Protection Act, forest ranger B R Ajayan said.
Meanwhile, Uthra's one-year-old son Dhruv was handed over to her parents after the intervention of women's commission. Child welfare department officials took the child from Sooraj's house in Adoor and handed him over to Uthra's parents.
