Congress Committee Secretary and
former minister Sudhir Sharma said that there are huge lapses in the bills sent by
Himachal State Electricity Board Limited to the consumers and it also shows the extent of mismanagement prevailing in the
power department. He said that on one hand, due to
Covid-19 epidemic, the entire economy has collapsed and people are struggling for money due to lockdown, sending inflated bills on average basis of previous is irresponsible act on the part of department. Sudhir Sharma said that when state is power surplus state then why the government cannot waive off bills of
lockdown period.
He said that these inflated bills were sent to people when there was two-days break in between and only three days time was given to pay the bills. He said that not only the domestic consumers but also the small and medium business class are also worried with the inflated bills as during lockdown their business was completely stalled.
He said that state government should intervene in such a time and give relief to people, where on one hand, Himachal Pradesh is known as power surplus state on other such a situation to put consumers in tight spot is a big blunder on the part of government.
He said that due to
Corona epidemic, the general public has not been benefited from any kind of relief package from the government so far, while the people themselves have performed their duties very well. He demanded that government should waive of the electricity bills at the time of lockdown by withdrawing the bills issued at present with immediate effect.
