SRINAGAR: A 10-year-old girl and a 50-year-old woman were killed while a 25-year-old woman sustained injuries on Wednesday after a tree uprooted by strong winds fell on them in Keller area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district. Another 24-year-old woman was killed in Anantnag district after her house’s tin sheet roof collapsed on her.
Strong winds struck the valley around 5pm on Wednesday, when a Bakerwal (nomadic) family came under a huge tree in Shukroo Chulawali area in Shopian. The 10-year-old, identified as Babli, and 50-year-old Zaina Bano of Jammu’s Akhnoor were killed. Another woman, Shabnum (25), was injured.
The three were rushed to a hospital in Keller where Babli and Zaina were declared dead, Keller block medical officer said.
In Anantnag’s Srigufwara area another woman, identified as Nuzhat Bashir (24), died after a tin shed of her house fell on her due to strong winds. She was rushed to the subdistrict where she was declared brought dead, officials said.
A private car was also damaged after a tree, uprooted by strong winds, fell on it in Anantnag’s Roohu area. Nobody was, however, injured in the accident.
