Spain has recently published a new set of guidelines highlighting certain safety protocols essential for the safe reopening of the tourism industry. The guidelines have been officially published by Isabel Maria Oliver Sagreras, the Spanish secretary of state for tourism. The guides include new technical specifications with regard to safety protocols that need to be undertaken by the tourism industry. It has been prepared in coordination with the Spanish Ministry of Health to ensure the safe reopening of the tourism sector and to reduce the risk of coronavirus spread.
The guidelines contain specifications for the different subsectors and activities that form part of the tourism framework related to safe service, cleaning, and disinfection, maintenance, and risk management. It includes instructions and recommendations for travel agencies, hotels, and tourist apartments, hostels and camping sites, tourist guides, information offices, restaurants, spas, museums, golf courses as well as rural accommodation and active tourism.
The guides mainly discuss and refer to unique public spaces and beaches, protected natural areas, amusement and leisure parks, nautical sports facilities, and nautical activities including Spanish nightlife, cultural, historical and natural sites, tourist transport, and also visits vineyards and other industrial facilities. All these instructions provide rules and necessary actions essential for the tourism sector to restart its activity ensuring maximum safety of tourists and employees of the sector. It has also been published with the aim of offering confidence to travelers once they resume traveling post the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Institute for Spanish Tourist Quality has been entrusted with the coordination of these guides by the secretary of state after an agreement with the autonomous communities to have homogeneous protocols for the whole country. The guidelines arrived after Spain announced plans to open its tourism sector earlier this week. It has also been informed that quarantine rules for new arrivals in the country are expected to be suspended from July 1. In addition, there are eight other guides currently pending validation by the ministry of health.
