Car dealership arrives home? Mercedes-Benz India takes the first attempt

NEW DELHI: Mercedes Benz India is bullish on driving in 10 cars in 2020 amid the Covid-19 pandemic, according to a top company official.

The luxury carmaker rolled out in two AMG models through its 'first-ever' digital launch on Wednesday -- AMG C 63 Coupe at Rs 1.33 crore (ex-showroom) and the AMG GT-R at Rs 2.48 crore (ex-showroom).

The launch event began with the hashtag ‘WeAreBack’ announcing the reopening of the Mercedes-Benz dealerships which were shut due to coronavirus. Currently, the luxury carmaker is 70% operational.

Martin Schwenk, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India said, "We will remain on track and proceed with the new launches. As promised, Mercedes-Benz India will introduce exciting products including GLS, A-class limousine, GLA, and the first electric car - EQC."

Like most carmakers, Mercedes-Benz India relied on its digitalized sales platform during the Covid-19 lockdown. The German carmaker had introduced special initiative - 'Merc from Home' in April. Schwenk confirmed over 100 confirmed online bookings for new and pre-owned cars through this initiative.

India's largest luxury carmaker also introduced industry-first ‘Live Consultation Studio’ on Wednesday, where customers can book a time slot and get a Mercedes professional to explain to them the features of the car live without leaving the comfort of their homes.

Schwenk, however, said the digital will develop over time and will complement the dealerships. "It a completely hassle-free, convenient and 360 degrees of online shopping from the convenience of home. From the selection of a vehicle, online inquiry and consultation, test-drive, online payment and home delivery, everything is integrated into one seamless process," Schwenk had earlier told TOI.
