KOZHIKODE/THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: One more person, Asiya (61) of
Dharmadom in Kannur, died of Covid-19 in the state on Monday night. This is the seventh Covid casualty in the state, according to health ministry data.
Asiya, who has been undergoing treatment for cerebral hemorrhage, was admitted to a private hospital in Kozhikode, where she developed symptoms of Covid-19. She was immediately shifted to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. Doctors said her condition worsened on Monday night. Some of her relatives in Dharmadom have also been tested positive for the virus.
On Sunday also, the MCH witnessed another death, of 53-year-old Amina of
Kalpetta in Wayanad. She was a cancer patient and she had returned to the state from the UAE on May 20.
Meanwhile, the surge in Covid-19 cases in the state showed no respite on Monday, with 49 more persons testing positive for the virus. As many as 206 cases were reported in the past four days, with 42 cases on May 22 and 62 and 53 cases in the following days.
Among those who tested positive on Monday, 18 had come from abroad and 25 from other states while six -- including two remand prisoners in Kannur and one ambulance driver in
Thiruvananthapuram -- got infected through contact. Those getting infected through contact are also on the rise in the state, 24 cases in three days.
The total number of Covid cases reported in the state has gone up to 896, of whom 359 are under treatment now. Kannur has the maximum number of active cases (77), followed by Palakkad (53), Malappuram (48), Kasaragod (34), Thiruvananthapuram (29) and Kozhikode (26). There are active cases in all 14 districts in the state now.
