Highest in a day, 67 Covid-19 cases reported in Kerala

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state recorded the highest number of Covid-19 cases in a day with 67 people testing positive on Tuesday. With this, 963 cases have been reported in Kerala till date of which 415 are undergoing treatment at various hospitals.
Of the 67 new positive cases, 29 are from Palakkad, eight from Kannur, six from Kottayam, five each from Ernakulam and Malappuram, four each from Kollam and Thrissur and three each from Alappuzha and Kasaragod.
Kannur has highest number of active cases in the state with 85, followed by Palakkad with 81 cases and Malappuram - 51 cases. The number of people under observation once again crossed the one lakh mark. Now 1,04,336 persons are under surveillance, out of which 1,03,528 are under home or institutional quarantine and 808 are admitted in designated isolation facilities.
Till date, 56,704 samples (including augmented samples) have been sent for testing out of which 54836 came as negative. Apart from these, 8,599 samples were taken from priority groups like healthcare workers, persons with high social exposure, workers, etc as part of sentinel surveillance of which 8,174 samples tested negative.
However, test results of 10 Covid-19 patients under treatment have been declared negative. Of which two each are from Ernakulam (one Palakkad native), Malappuram, and Kasaragod and one each from Alappuzha, Kottayam, Palakkad and Kozhikode (one Malappuram native).
Meanwhile, chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said the state was on the verge of a community spread. He warned the people not to violate the quarantine rules and to ensure social distancing in public places. People were misusing the lockdown relaxations, he added.
