Karnataka: Students launch state-level 'campaign from home' during lockdown

MANGALURU: The National Students Union of India (NSUI), Karnataka has launched a statewide ‘campaign from home' to alert the government.
"I am a student. The government is responsible for the protection of my future," reads the placards that students are holding as part of the campaign.
The major concern of National Students Union of India (NSUI) Karnataka is the education loans availed by a large number of students, who are pursuing higher studies, and several other issues related to lockdown and education. Students seek clarity on their future with regard to education. Since there is no permission for protests due to Covid-19 lockdown, students launched the novel campaign of sharing a photo of them holding placards at home on social media and making it their DP.

NSUI Mangaluru South president Shounak S Rai told TOI that the state government has been taking illogical decisions with regard to the primary, secondary and higher education.

“Students across the state have been facing many difficulties. Students in the border areas of the state and those who are in the containment areas will not be able to attend classes or examinations. In this circumstance, there is no need of conducting examinations especially when the state is witnessing an increase in the number of Covid19 cases. The government should consider the problems students are facing and take decisions keeping in mind the bright future of students ranging from primary to degree,” he said.
NSUI has called upon students to tag chief minister B S Yediyurappa and primary and secondary education minister Suresh Kumar while sharing the pics of the campaign, he said adding that campaign has received an overwhelming response from students across the state.
Extending support to the state-wide campaign, Congress MLC Ivan D’Souza said the government has its responsibility to protect the interests of students in the state. “I request the government to make all arrangements with regard to the conduct of examinations, preparation of textbooks and opening of classes in consultation with students. The government should take appropriate decisions keeping the future of students and the problems they are facing due to Covid19 lockdown in mind,” D’Souza added.
