Self-study is the success mantra for clearing any examination, says Durgesh Kumar

Durgesh Kumar, son of a farmer from Samastipur district who secured the second rank in the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) class X exam merit list aspires to study in an IIT. With 480 marks out of total 500, Durgesh emerged as the second topper after Himanshu Raj who secured 481 marks. He was hopeful of securing good marks in the board exam. However, making to the merit list was an icing on the cake for him and his family.

Despite financial hardship faced by his family, Durgesh, managed to study hard, under the guidance and support of his uncle who is a science teacher at BS Inter College, Karua in the district. “I am thankful to my supportive family and teachers who encouraged me to study hard and guided me to work on my shortcomings,” says Durgesh who loves Mathematics.

“My uncle who runs a coaching institute helped me clear the doubts and strengthened the basics while preparing for the board exam,” Durgesh tells Education Times. He mostly preferred to study books by NCERT and Bihar State Text Book Publishing Corporation (BTBPC) for his board exams instead of mindlessly chasing expensive reference books.

A student of SK High School Jitwarpur and native of Malti village near Samastipur, wants to prepare for the Joint Entrance Examination (IIT JEE) simultaneously while studying in class XI. “Taking coaching class might be not a viable option for me due to the financial conditions of my family,” he adds. Self-motivation and self-study are the success mantra for clearing any examination, he says.

Youngest among four of his siblings, he watches comedy serials and listens to music to relax from his hectic study schedule.
