Bella Hadid is a fan of summer’s most risqué bikini trend

Just as we were getting used to seeing celebrities snuggling their pets in various states of undress on social media during lockdown, another Instagram phenomenon has cropped up to take its place: the underboob-revealing bikini – and it looks set to be the most daring swimwear trend of summer 2020.

Exhibit one: Bella Hadid’s emerald-green Sommer Swim bikini. While observing stay-at-home rules, the model posed for a series of snaps in her barely-there bikini in her backyard in Pennsylvania. Though Hadid, who accessorised with a gold watch and a simple pair of matching hoops, chose not to write a caption on her Instagram post (no words necessary?), nearly two million fans swiftly tapped the heart button. 

Exhibit two: Rita Ora, who posted a snap of herself in an itsy-bitsy olive-green bikini that revealed liberal amounts of underboob against a dreamy blue backdrop. Unlike Hadid, the singer added a caption, albeit a rather cryptic one: “Me: hey, what you reading? You: ffs.” Shot from below, the photos capture Ora striking a series of poses in her sun-drenched garden.

And then there’s Emily Ratajkowski, who has been embracing the risqué look since last summer. The model – who owns her own swimwear line, Inamorata – often wears slashed-in-half tops that reveal a sliver of underboob. The model typically styles hers with high-cut bikini briefs and her faithful German Shepherd cross, Colombo. 

To no-one’s surprise, Kendall Jenner is no stranger to the trend either. In 2019, she wasphotographed wearing a Sommer Swim “Baroque” bikini with high-cut string bottoms. The impossible-to-miss style has captured KJ’s fashion heart. She recently posted a throwback snap of her holiday memories on Instagram and wrote: “Me and this bikini: a love story.” It’s a love story that looks likely to continue this summer.
