Tamil Nadu reported 805 fresh
Covid-19 cases on Monday taking the total tally to 17,082.
While 549 of these cases were from Chennai, 93 were passengers from other states and countries, health minister
C Vijaya Baskar said.
The state has been ramping up testing facilities, and soon it will have a total of 68 laboratories. “Tamil Nadu is among the states that has tested the maximum number of people,” he said. The state has tested more than 4.2 lakh samples so far.
“Although many districts have brought the virus under control, there is an influx of cases from natives who are returning from other states and countries,” he said.
On Monday, 87 passengers from Maharashtra, two from Kerala, one from Andhra Pradesh and three from Gujarat tested positive for the viral infection.
“We welcome our citizens back home. But we want them to ensure strict quarantine for 14 days,” he said. Passengers are screened as soon as they arrive. While those with symptoms are sent for tests, those healthy are sent home. “We will fix a stamp with indelible ink,” he said.
At the end of the day, 407 patients were discharged taking the total number of patients cured to 8,731. There were 8,230 active cases on Monday evening.
