Teens face court on murder charges, as Kevin Kourtis' family grapple with his death

The alleged murder of concreter Kevin Kourtis in his home in Sydney's north-west by a group of teenagers will haunt his family for the rest of their lives, his cousin has said.

Mr Kourtis was at his home in Langton Street, Riverstone, in the early hours of Sunday morning when "a group of at least five males entered the home and stabbed the male occupant, before fleeing", police said in a media release on Sunday.

On Monday, a manhunt continued to track down the other alleged attackers.

"One of the lines that we are pursuing [is] that it was a targeted attack or that the offenders were known to the deceased or the deceased knew the offenders," Superintendent Jenny Scholz told reporters in Sydney on Sunday.

Police took a knife and a gun from the scene, but were still examining whether the weapons were involved in the attack.

Two women, aged 34 and 43, were also in the home at the time.

The younger woman had minor injuries and was treated at the scene, Superintendent Scholz said.

On Monday, Mr Kourtis' cousin Jodie Kourtis said in a post on Facebook, "The feeling we have about yesterday’s tragic situation will haunt us all for the rest of our [lives].

"Kevin had a kind heart and never deserved such a tragic ending to his life.

"Our cousin Kevin will be missed and we will always remember our times together

"My condolences to his beautiful family from Cyprus I can’t imagine what your going through."

The two teenage boys, who cannot be identified, were charged with murder on Sunday over Mr Kourtis' death.

They were refused bail and are due to appear in Parramatta Children's Court on Monday.

Police have also applied in court to carry out forensic procedures on the boys.
