UP: Inmate tests positive for Covid-19 in Siddharthnagar district jail

LUCKNOW: A 25-year-old inmate accused in culpable homicide not amounting to murder case and lodged in Siddharthnagar district jail was tested positive for Covid-19 on Sunday. The prisoner has been isolated while sanitisation is being done on the premises.
So far, 19 inmates of jails in the state have tested positive. It includes- ten in Agra central jail, three in a temporary jail of Kanpur and six in Moradabad district jail.
District magistrate, Siddharthnagar, Deepak Meena said that random sampling of as many as 30 prisoners were done. “We received negative reports for 27 inmates while one was found to be positive,” said the officer.
He also said that report of the remaining were awaited while the lab has been asked to double-check the sample of the 25-year-old inmate again. The inmate was quarantined for 39 days before being brought to the main jail in the month of April.
“The entire prison is being sanitised and we will take more random samples of the inmates to ensure that nobody is left out,” he added.
