Covid-19 spike thus far,
Gadag district reported 15 cases of the
pandemic on Saturday. The overall Covid-19 tally in the North Karnataka district has now reached 35, of which 30 are
active cases.
Of the 15 people who tested positive for the novel coronavirus in Gadag on Saturday, six had returned to the district from
Gujarat,
Rajasthan and
Maharashtra, while the remaining individuals reportedly contracted it from previously infected patients. While a 25-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy who tested positive had returned to Gadag from Gujarat, a seven-year-old girl was among the three people who returned from Mumbai and were confirmed infected on Saturday. A 17-year-old girl was the other returning migrant, she arrived in Gadag from Rajasthan, to test positive.
Deputy commissioner MG Hiremath said that all those who had been confirmed with the infection had been admitted to the Covid-19 ward at the Gadag Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS). He added that as many as 17 people had returned to Gadag from Gujarat on May 18. “Of the 17, two have tested positive, while we have kept the remaining 15 people under observation. Meanwhile, four people who came from Maharashtra had hired a vehicle, which dropped them at Nippani, from where they came to Gadag by truck. While three of them have been confirmed infected, the other individual is under observation,” Hiremath added.
