MUMBAI: Union railway minister Piyush Goyal said that he is ready to deploy 125 Shramik special trains from Maharashtra after chief minister Uddhav Thackeray accused the centre of not providing adequate trains.
Thackeray had claimed during his Facebook live address, "We are asking the Centre for 80 trains daily, but we are so far getting only about 40."
Responding to this, railway minister Piyush Goyal had said that his ministry is ready to provide 125 trains on Monday.
In a series of tweets, Goyal said, "Uddhav ji, hope you are healthy, good luck for your good health. Tomorrow we are ready to deliver 125 workers Special Trains from Maharashtra. You said that you have a list of workers ready. So, you are requested to (provide) all information, such as where the train will run, the list of passengers according to the trains, their medical certificate and where the train is to go, please inform all the information to the general manager of Central Railway in the next hour, so that we can plan the time of trains."
He further tweeted, "Hopefully, after coming to the train station as before, do not have to go back empty. I would like to assure you that the trains you need will be available."
Thackeray said, "Around seven lakh migrant workers have gone on these trains. Rs 85 crore has been paid for it by the state government."
Railway officials in Mumbai have blamed the state administration for poor handling of migrants as compared to Gujarat where around 800 trains have run. Approximately 450 trains have run from Maharashtra.
In Mumbai, some registered migrants have not been informed about the departure dates despite registering weeks ago.
In a few cases, unregistered migrants have turned up at stations which has led to chaos.
