Mumbai: Virar man held for killing 20-year-old daughter

MUMBAI: A Virar man allegedly killed his 20-year-old daughter with a hammer at their home on Saturday. He has been arrested.
Arnala police said that Dattaram Joshi (54) had an argument with his daughter Aakansha at their Unique Empire home in Tirupati Nagar, Virar (west) at around 9.30 am. His wife and elder son were in the house. Aakansha, was a final year Bachelor of Science student of a local college.
He pulled out a hammer and hit her on the head several times. A bleeding Aakansha was taken to the hospital by neighbours who heard her screams. The building residents informed the police who reached the house and arrested.
Police said that the cause of the murder has not been established. Joshi has not uttered a word about the incident.
The body has been send for autopsy. Police said that the victim’s mother and brother are being questioned. Police has seized the girl’s cellphone for leads.
The hammer used in the murder has been seized.
Joshi has been booked for murder under IPC section 302.
