MUMBAI: As classrooms turn digital and schools allow parents to not pay transport fees as they aren’t using the services, the city’s school bus owners stare at an uncertain future.
The School Bus Owners’ Association said it might have to let go of their staffers next month as their survival without fees is next to impossible.
Even before the lockdown was imposed, city schools suspended classes. Most schools waive transport and canteen fees, impacting bus owners.
“Many schools have not renewed contracts for the next academic year. Also, schools tell us they are unaware of the reopening date and unsure of transport rules, once classes resume,” said Anil Garg of the association. “But later, drivers may not be available for buses.”
