Odisha govt plans industrial growth in post-Covid world

Officials in a video-conference with Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan in Bhubaneswar on Saturday
BHUBANESWAR: Focusing on foreign direct investment (FDI), participation in industrial promotion activities and strengthening industrial infrastructure are the key areas the state government has planned to focus on to keep up the momentum of industrialisation in Odisha in the post-Covid situation.
The issue was discussed during a video conference of various Union ministries and state government departments chaired by Union petroleum and steel minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday.
The meeting assumes significance as the state government is heading for the third edition of the Make in Odisha conclave, the biennial investment summit scheduled in November-December this year.
The state government stressed to draw FDI from Japan, South Korea, Germany, Taiwan, USA and Middle East in different focus sectors through strategies like close coordination between the Centre's FDI cell, investment promotion cell and trade organisations of these countries, said official sources. It also aims to attract foreign investors pulling out of China.
Pradhan advised ministries and state government departments to work in tandem to boost industrial infrastructure and accelerate industrialisation.
"Odisha has taken remarkable steps to make the state an investment destination. It is now ready for next higher level of industrial development in post-Covid scenario," said an official statement quoting Pradhan.
The state government said it would work with bilateral associations and missions for various sectors and countries.
