Tamil Nadu: Burglars loot Rs 16 lakh cash, flee with car

COIMBATORE: A three-member gang who covered their faces with mask, broke into a house and looted Rs 16 lakh in cash at Udumalpet in Tamil Nadu's Tirupur district early on Sunday. They also fled away with a Ford Eco Sport.
V Palanisamy, 75 from Dhali Road at Elaiyamuthur Pirivu in Udumalpet ownes a fertiliser shop in the name of Senthil Murugan agro service at Udumalpet. On Saturday night, Palanisamy and his wife were sleeping in two separate bed rooms on the ground floor of the house. His son, daughter-in-law and three grandchildren were sleeping on the first floor.
The trio entered house by breaking open the main door of the house at around 2am on Sunday. They entered a bedroom where Palanisamy was sleeping and assaulted him using a sickle and tied his hands. The burglars looted Rs 16 lakhs in cash and took away digital video recorder connected with CCTV cameras. Later the gang drove away a car from the house and fled from the crime scene.
Palanisamy managed to come out of his bedroom and alerted his wife and family members who informed Udumalpet police. Deputy superintendent of police Jayachandran and team rushed to the spot and inquired about the incident. When the burglary happened, the family members were in deep sleep. A sniffer dog was pressed into service. Forensic science and finger print experts also visited the crime scene.
Udumalpet police registered a case and formed two special teams to nab the burglars.
