Representative image. MUMBAI: Heavy police bandobast has been deployed in the city on the eve of Eid on Monday particular to ensure that the social distancing and lockdown norms are not violated.
Mumbai Police through the muftis and Ulema have asked the people to celebrate the festival at their homes. "Through the community leaders we have appealed to the members of Muslim community particularly the young generation to offer Eid namaz at their homes and don’t violate the lockdown norms else strict action will be taken. There will be extra police all over the city and we will see that the youngsters don’t venture out unnecessary." Said Pranay Ashok, deputy commissioner of police (Operation).
Former minority minister Arif Nasim Khan said, "We have already started appealing to the people to not to break the lockdown norms on Eid. Today evening when maulanas in respective areas while announcing the sighting of moon will also be announcing to strictly adhere the lockdown rules."
Maulanas have announced that the Muslims should offer the Eid Namaz (prayers) at home. Jamiatul Ulema-E-Hind’S head Maulana Arshad Madni has asked Muslims to offer two rakats (two units) namaz at their homes in group of four adult males.
There are around 692 containment zones in Mumbai and in a bid to keep the social distancing there will be heavy police deployment with the presence of all top police officials who will be visiting different pockets on Monday.
Beside the strong force of 30,000 policemen from Central industrial Security Force, Central Armed force, crime branch, Special branch and traffic police will be all over the city and strict action will be taken on youngsters moving out for stroll for no reasons.
"On every junctions we have put up extra police teams which will freeze those bikers moving out doing stunts etc." said DCP Pranay.
There are around 692 containment zones in Mumbai and in a bid to keep the social distancing, the police are also likely to use drone cameras to monitor few sensitive zones.
