IIT BhubaneswarBHUBANESWAR: Some students of IIT Bhubaneswar were not willing to appear for the end semester examinations online, the institution found out through online mock tests.
IIT Bhubaneswar director RV Rajakumar said they conducted the mock tests in 40 subjects involving 250 students. "Though the students wrote their answers on papers as done in the conventional exams, they were under surveillance through laptops or mobiles, connected by a video call. The invigilators were monitoring them throughout," he added. The institution created a virtual examination hall where students from across the country participated through a common link. They were told to submit their answer papers online after scanning them.
However, the students felt that they were not ready to take the end semester examinations online. While some students do not have laptops, the others do not have proper internet connection at home.
Rajakumar said the computer tests had a few drawbacks. "We conducted a poll for the opinion of our students. They are not ready for this system. Therefore, the institute has decided to hold classroom examinations on the campus after they return. We are planning to conduct the end semester examinations by the end of June or July," the director added.
He said the students who would return to campus needed to stay in quarantine before coming to classes or appearing for the examinations. "We will follow the guidelines of Union ministry of human resource development while conducting the examinations," he added.
The institute has been live-streaming classes for its students residing in different parts of the country. It has conducted classes according to the original time table and completed the courses on time.
