Gujarat: About 29 Covid-19 cases reported in Surat city; three succumb to virus

SURAT: About 29 more Covid-19 cases were reported in Surat on Saturday. Out of these, highest number of cases were reported from Katargam zone with 10 followed by eight from Limbayat, five from Varachha (A) and two from Udhna zone.
On Saturday, three women succumbed to Covid-19 in Surat city. All the three women had co-morbid conditions. Total 59 people have succumbed to the virus in Surat city till date.
Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has asked all industrial units not to call workers who have come to the city from outside before 14 days mandatory quarantined period as they may be infected and spread further.
"We have come across a case where a labourer came from Haryana in Limbayat area in the city on 21 May and he started working in an industrial unit immediately after coming to the city. But he was tested positive for Covid-19. So, I request all industrial unit owners not to allow workers to come to their units before completing 14 days mandatory self quarantined period otherwise the virus will spread further." Banchhanidhi Pani, Municipal Corporation, Surat, said.
"Also, slum areas are hardest hit in the city and therefore I appeal to people to take care of their drivers, security guards and whoever coming from slums areas and give them masks and sanitizers so that we can prevent the spread of the virus," Pani urged to people.
Meanwhile, 22 more Covid-19 patients were discharged on Saturday taking the discharged tally to 852 in the city.
