Haryana: 50-year-old man with last stage lung cancer dies of Covid-19

JIND: A 50-year-old cancer patient, who was tested Covid-19 positive on May 18 in a private hospital in Hisar, died on Thursday while being treated in Maharaja Agarsen Medical College of Agroha.
After getting his death information, health department officials sent an ambulance to Agroha to bring back the body and follow protocols while cremating him. He was cremated in the presence of sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Uchana, block development and panchayat officer Alewa. Deceased’s son performed the last rites in personal protective equipment (PPE) gear.
Reportedly, the deceased hailed from Pega village of Jind and had been working as a security guard in Mumbai’s Thane area. He returned on May 10 to Jind. He was suffering from the last stage of lung cancer for a long time and was under treatment in Mumbai’s Thakur Das hospital.
After coming back to Jind, he approached a private hospital in Karnal district as he had problems while urinating, but he was sent back to Jind for treatment. Thereafter, he visited Jind’s civil hospital for the same issue on May 13, where he got first aid and stayed for around two hours and left for Hisar’s Jindal hospital. He stayed over there from May 14 to May 16 and his sample for testing for Covid-19 as collected as well. He left the hospital on May 16 after giving sample and was admitted in Sarvoday hospital in Hisar. He stayed there between May 16 and May 18. When his results came back positive, he was refereed to Maharaja Agarsen Medical College.
Dr Ramesh Punia, nodal officer for Covid-19 in Hisar said, “We have collected 67 samples from those who came in contact with him during his stay in Hisar. Reports are awaited. We came to know that the deceased had visited Aadhar hospital as well in Hisar and his contacts are being tracing out. However, an ambulance driver, who dropped him from Aadhar hospital to Sarvoday hospital on May 16, is yet to be traced.”
SDM Rajesh Khoth said “Twenty persons were present at the funeral, including five family members. We were all equipped in PPE kits. His body was packed at Agroha Medical College and thankfully, the family members did not insist to see him last time.”
