Over 8kg heroin, 15 cartridges recovered from near international borderBARNALA: The Barnala police on Friday recovered 8.290 kilogram white powder appearing as heroin from Bareke border out post(BOP) across the fence near the Pakistan border in Ferozepur district. The police with support from Border Security Force(BSF) also recovered 15 live cartridges appeared to be manufactured in Pakistan. The consignment was put in various packets which has been recovered on a specific tip off provided by a woman already arrested with a small quantity of heroine few days ago.
Barnala SSP Sandeep Goel speaking to media persons told that the district police on May 13 had arrested one Balbir Kaur from whom 55 gram of heroin was recovered which was for the earlier consignment smuggled from Pakistan.
She told the police about the second installment to be smuggled on the wee hours of Friday and a ting on the top off a police party was sent to the place which made contact with the BSF and recovered the drugs and cartridges. SSP said though the case has been registered under NDPS Act and Arms Act yet it will be sent for chemical examination in the laboratory. The market price is pegged at over Rs 40 crore and if police had not acted in time this could have been pushed into the state and could have reached the end users, said the SSP adding he will recommend some award to the team which recovered the drug.
Earlier Moga police have recovered two consignments of heroin sometime ago from near international border.
