CHANDIGARH: A PIL has been filed in Punjab and Haryana high court seeking to quash the education department order of May 18 which seeks to direct school students and their parents to pay fee by May 31, which falls within the lockdown period, as demanded by private unaided schools.
The PIL demands waiver of all funds/charges except for tuition fee and rescheduling of the last date for fee submission for the period April to June, to September 30 in view of the Covid-19 crisis. The PIL filed by advocate Pankaj Chandgothia will come up for hearing shortly.
The PIL argues that even though many schools are conducting some kind of online teaching, most schools are pushing online classes to justify their demand for full fees.
It was stated that the education department has issued an arbitrary order which has the binding effect of making every student/parent pay the entire fee of two months (April and May) within the lockdown period up to May 31, failing which there would be consequences. It was argued that the order is impossible to comply with as the lockdown was in force.
